Absolutely love Dr. Cobbinah! She is my PCP and she does my laser hair removal. They have a great text system, which helps an anxious person like me. It does take awhile for some things to be processed but I feel like that is at any clinic, especially if the insurances aren’t cooperating. All in all, I recommend Essential Med Clinic. Dr. Cobbinah is attentive, takes time to educate, and wants to see you healthy and succeed in any health goals you have.

I was referred to this clinic by someone since I was looking for a PCP. I have been struggling with inattentiveness, the inability to focus, and complete tasks. I decided to schedule an appointment to be seen for Adult ADHD. When I called to schedule the appointment, I specifically asked if I be seen as a new patient to be screened and treated for ADHD. "Yes, we can see you as a new patient for that" was told me to over the phone. I thanked the gentlemen and immediately scheduled an appointment online.

I arrived at the office 20 minutes BEFORE my appointment (9:45a was my appointment), but didn't get checked into a room until about 10:55. After being checked in, the receptionist told me that my copay would be $150 since I hadn't met my deductible--okay. Then whenever I need medications refilled (which would be every 30 days), I had to be seen by the Doctor again and pay another amount of $80/each time-I complied.

The medical assistant asked ALL OF THE SAME QUESTIONS that were in the new patient forms that I had JUST FILLED OUT. That was pretty frustrating because why are you asking me all of these questions again?

The Dr. came in and was very standoffish in my opinion. She asked questions about my medical/personal history (medication allergies, surgeries, job, etc) and then asked if I wanted the flu vaccine. I told her no. She then said "What? You don't want the flu vaccine and you work around all those little kids?" NO! I do not want the flu vaccine and IF I did, I would have had it already.

She then asks..."What are we seeing you for today?" This is annoying because how do you not know what I'm here for? I begin to tell her I would like to be evaluated/tested for ADHD. She asks what my symptoms are and I begin explaining. She the proceeds to tell me that SHE HAS TO REFER ME TO A PSYCHOLOGIST TO BE EVALUATED AND TESTED. Then from there, I can go to a psychiatrist or return to her office for medicine. Seriously? I have PPO insurance, I could have SKIPPED this phony visit and gone straight to a psychologist. The receptionist SHOULD have told me over the phone that Dr. Cobbinah could NOT DIAGNOSE AND TREAT ADHD and the appointment. She then tells me she will write a referral to a psychology clinic that she uses. The medical assistant tells me its not even in network for me. $150 later and the Dr barely listening to my lungs and heart, and I didn't accomplish what I set out to have done.

Don't go to this clinic or see this dr. That's it, that's all.

Nurse Maude and Dr. Cobbinah are fabulous however all of their staff including billing and front desk are absolutely TERRIBLE! Do not recommend anyone deal with the headaches the staff gives. They lack professionalism and knowledge. Filing a claim for questionable insurance billing practices. When you dispute with their office they threaten with sending you to collections.

Update: was just asked about removing this review even though I haven't been refunded for any cancellation fee for normal lab results. REALLY! If you don't want bad reviews, be upfront with your customers. I have never had a bad experience with any medical provider and did not with this practice as well, but being charged for information that your staff should have been upfront about is WRONG. Change your processes and I will change my review. My original review was over 8 months; very late response if you truly care as my complaint would have been addressed in a more timely manner. I can't remove my experience therefore I am not removing my review.

Nurse Practitioner was excellent but the unnecessary fees are astronomical. A fee to discuss normal lab results that are located within the portal for free. This has never been an issue at my last PCM. Also, requires a referral for a bi annual pap. Excessive fees are a huge red flag for me as I have always been very healthy.

Love it here. Staff and doctor are nice and patient. Treatments are effective. Dr. Cobbinah is so nice with great bedside manner.

Dr. Cobbinah is my general practitioner here at Essential Med Clinic. She is amazing and has helped me understand a little more about keeping myself healthy.

She suggested cutting down on my consumption of red meat to lower my cholesterol. I was also at risk of hypothyroidism at the time in January of this year. Six months later I get my blood work done and I’m back to normal! She is kind, informative and caring of your needs and concerns. I’ve never had a long wait time and her and her staff are efficient in their care of patients. I highly recommend their practice to anyone needing new and amazing doctor.

This has got to be one of the worst experiences I have received from a doctors office. Being new to SA I found this office online. Every time you need a med refill you have to go in and pay a copay. I had an X-ray done and never received a call from the doctor. After a week, I called to ask about my results. I couldn't reach anyone at the office and when I hung up I received a text message asking if I wanted a call back. When I replied yes, I received a text message 5 hours later asking "have you been helped". As the conversation continues, I replied no and got a txt asking "how can I help you." Once I explained my issue, I received a text back saying you have mild arthritis. WHAT?! So I call to speak to a live person and the person on the phone says the exact same thing. When I asked to speak to the nurse or doctor they just explained that the chart says that I have mild arthritis. I can come in to see the doctor. AND PAY ANOTHER COPAY!! for X-ray results! This doctors office is very impersonal and will copay you to death. I DO NOT recommend this office. You are welcome to not believe me and try if for yourself but don't say you were not warned!

opinion about treatment options for endometriosis. The Dr. kept insisting that I get my thyroid checked, ordered a ton of expensive texts and requested that I get my blood drawn before leaving. The phlebotomist was extremely rude when she saw me wincing at the needle she gives me a stone face and says “it shouldn’t be hurting you that bad.”

I let her finish and told front desk staff and my complaint wasn’t even acknowledged. Then I’m asked to schedule a follow up appt to get my results. It was scheduled for 5:15 pm. I did not get a link until 6:45 pm. There was no call or text to inform me during that time that the Dr. was behind schedule until I started making a fuss about it at 6:00 pm.

The staff is rude and will over bill you every chance they get. I will be changing PCP’s. This is so sad because I was so excited to have a black primary Doctor as it is rare to see in San Antonio. But her office and staff are cold and money hungry. All they want to do is waste time and money and you will never get an apology for it.

Additional reasons I will no longer go to Dr. Cobbinah:

1. Rude staff
2. Lost money that I paid for future cosmetic work.
3. Poor communication
4. Lack of cost transparency
5. Unable to reach the by phone.
6. Long wait times (2 hours +) for telehealth visits
7. Rushed services
8. Not addressing the reason for my appointment
9. Delayed prescriptions

They also treated my husband poorly. I found a different dr and will get my services there don’t be fooled by the office paying for good SEO. They do not care about their patients only your money. I recommend not going here unless you have money and time to waste.
